How to buy an anonymous eSIM
Get mobile data without handing over your passport or name, pay privately, and understand what an eSIM still reveals.
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone. You install it by scanning a QR code, so nothing is posted to you and there is no shop to visit. Many travel data eSIMs can be bought without showing ID.
What "anonymous" really means
No eSIM is perfectly anonymous. Be honest about what it hides and what it does not.
What it can hide:
- Your name and passport (for many data-only travel eSIMs)
- Your home address
- Your bank card, if you pay with crypto
What it cannot hide:
- Your phone's identity. The phone has an IMEI and the eSIM chip has an EID. The network sees both.
- Your location. The network knows which towers you use.
- Your email, if you give one at checkout.
- Rules in your country. Some countries require ID to activate any SIM for calls and texts. Data-only eSIMs are often treated differently.
Step 1: Choose a data eSIM
Data-only eSIMs are easiest to get without ID. They have no phone number, so use SimpleX or a VoIP number for chats and calls. You can browse them in our shop.
Step 2: Check your phone is eSIM compatible and unlocked
A locked phone cannot use another provider's eSIM. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
Step 3: Pay privately
- Pay with crypto. See how to buy crypto without KYC.
- Use a new email address that is not linked to your name: private email guide. If the seller only needs an email to send the QR code, a free receive-only Juvega address works: how to use free Juvega email addresses.
- Do not reuse a username.
Step 4: Install it
Follow how to install an eSIM. Do it over a VPN or on a trusted network, not on public Wi-Fi.
Step 5: Use it wisely
- Keep your main (home) SIM off or in airplane mode in places you do not want it linked.
- Do not use the same eSIM for your normal accounts. Do not log in to accounts that carry your real name.
- Remember: using your real accounts on a new SIM links the two together.
- Delete the eSIM profile when it is used up.

- Use a travel router with a VPN: VPN router guide.
Legal note
Rules about SIM registration are different in every country. Check what applies where you are. This guide is for privacy, not for breaking the law.
